Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this thing called the OMEGA X-33 Marstimer. It’s a watch, but not just any watch – this one’s got some special stuff for, you know, Mars and all that.
First off, I didn’t buy it. I mean, it’s cool and all, but I just couldn’t justify paying for it, even though it says it costs around $7000. Yeah, I know, pretty steep. But I got to play with it, which is what counts, right?
I started by trying to find one of these things, as they are only available in specialty stores. I heard you can get them directly from OMEGA’s website, but I wanted to see it in person. They call it the Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer, and apparently, it’s the 4th generation of the X-33 series. I also found out it’s not replacing the Skywalker, whatever that is. They had a pre-owned one, which had a reference number 318.90.45.79.01.003, dated 2023. Seemed pretty new to me.
After finally getting my hands on it, the first thing I did was just stare at it. It’s inspired by Mars, so it’s got this reddish vibe. The floating outer dial frames the display, which is pretty neat. You can see the time on both Earth and Mars. I spent a good amount of time fiddling with the display, switching between the two. It felt a bit like being in a sci-fi movie, honestly.
Then, I started playing with the buttons. There are a bunch of them, and it took me a while to figure out what each one did. I pushed them, I held them, I twisted the crown thingy – you name it. I wanted to see all its features. It’s got a titanium bracelet, but there’s also a nylon NATO strap option, which I guess is for the more rugged, outdoorsy types. I messed around with the different modes, trying to see what this Marstimer was all about.
I also tried to see if it could tell me where Mars was in the sky, but I couldn’t quite figure that out, or maybe it didn’t have that function. It was still cool to see the Mars time, though. I pretended I was an astronaut, checking the time on another planet. It was a fun little daydream.
I wore it around for a bit, just to see how it felt. It’s pretty lightweight for such a fancy watch. I even showed it off to a few friends, pretending I was some big-shot space explorer. They were impressed, or at least they pretended to be.
- What I did:
- Found an OMEGA X-33 Marstimer to play with.
- Checked out the Mars-inspired design and the dual Earth/Mars time display.
- Figured out the buttons and tried different modes.
- Pretended to be an astronaut.
- Showed it off to friends.
So yeah, that’s my little adventure with the OMEGA X-33 Marstimer. It’s a cool piece of tech, even if it’s way out of my price range. I had fun messing with it, and it was a nice little escape into a world of space exploration. If you’re into watches and Mars, and you’ve got a lot of cash to spare, you might want to check it out. As for me, I’ll just stick to dreaming about space for now.
