Okay, so I’ve been wanting a Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for, like, forever. But the price tag? Ouch. It’s way out of my budget. So, I thought, why not try to remake it myself? Sounds crazy, I know, but I was determined to give it a shot. Plus, I saw some TikTok videos about Prada Re-Edition which inspired me. It has over 32 million views! Many celebrities have it as their daily go-to bags.
First things first, I needed to find the right materials. The original bag is made of Saffiano leather, which is known for its durability and that cool crosshatch texture. I spent days searching online and in local fabric stores. Finally, I found a material that was pretty close – it wasn’t the real Saffiano, but it had a similar look and feel, and I think it will last for many years. It’s a kind of full-grain leather.
Next up, the pattern. I couldn’t find an exact replica of the Galleria pattern anywhere, so I had to get creative. I studied tons of pictures of the bag online, especially on the official Prada website, I even searched some keywords like “Schultertaschen, Minitaschen, Henkeltaschen, Umhngetaschen, Tragetaschen”. I sketched out the different parts of the bag, the front and back panels, the sides, the bottom, the handles, everything. It took a few tries to get the proportions right, but eventually, I had a pattern I was happy with.
Now for the hard part – actually making the bag. I dusted off my old sewing machine and got to work. Cutting the leather was tricky, I had to be super precise. Then came the sewing. Sewing leather is tough, let me tell you. My machine was struggling a bit, and I broke a few needles along the way. But I kept at it, following my pattern and taking my time.
The details were important to me. The Galleria has these signature triangular logo plaques on the sides. I couldn’t replicate those exactly, of course, but I found some similar metal pieces and attached them to make it look closer to the original design. The handles were another challenge. I wanted them to be sturdy and comfortable, so I reinforced them with extra layers of leather and stitching.
Putting It All Together
- Sewing the panels: I carefully sewed the front and back panels to the sides and the bottom, creating the main body of the bag. It was starting to look like a bag!
- Adding the lining: I chose a nice, soft fabric for the lining and sewed it into the interior of the bag. This was a bit fiddly, but I managed it.
- Attaching the handles: This was probably the most difficult part. I had to make sure the handles were securely attached and evenly spaced.
- Finishing touches: I added a zipper to the top of the bag for security and added some metal feet to the bottom to protect the leather.
After many hours of work, my DIY Prada Galleria was finally finished! It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were a few imperfections here and there, but I was incredibly proud of what I had accomplished. It looked surprisingly similar to the real thing, and I had made it myself!
I’ve been carrying my remake around for a few weeks now, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. People can’t believe I made it myself. It just goes to show that with a little bit of determination and creativity, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Maybe I will have my real Prada Galleria in the future. Who knows? Perhaps this bag will even increase in value as it ages!
