Okay, so, the other day I was messing around and thought, why not try to remake something really fancy? I decided to go for a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010, you know, the kind you see shining in their specialty stores. I’d seen this watch before – it’s a stunner with its rose gold and diamonds everywhere. But, of course, I didn’t have those kinds of materials just lying around.

Getting Started

First thing I did was look up everything I could find about this watch. I needed to know what makes it tick, literally. I found out it’s got a rose gold case, 31mm by 34.8mm, with baguette diamonds around the bezel and lugs. I was like, “How am I going to do this?”

Gathering My Tools

Next, I dug through my craft boxes. I didn’t have rose gold, obviously, but I did have some gold-colored foil and a bunch of those tiny shiny beads that kind of look like diamonds if you squint. I grabbed some cardboard for the base, and my trusty glue gun. It was time to get to work.

  • Cut the Base: I started by cutting out a rectangular piece of cardboard, trying to get it close to the size of the watch.
  • Foil It Up: Then, I wrapped the cardboard in the gold foil. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave it a nice, shiny look.
  • Bead Time: I started gluing the tiny beads around the edges of the cardboard to mimic the diamonds. This took forever, and my fingers were covered in glue by the end, but it started to look kind of fancy!

The Dial

The real Gondolo has a dial paved with 251 diamonds, and 12 trapeze-cut ones for the hour markers. I obviously couldn’t do that, so I used a marker to draw a circle on the foil and put little dots where the hours would be. It wasn’t the same, but it worked.

The Final Touches

I even tried to make a little crown for the side, using a bead and some more foil. It was tricky, but I managed to get it to stick. I drew some hands on the dial with a fine-tip marker, and there it was – my homemade Gondolo.

It’s not exactly like the real thing, but hey, I had a blast making it. Plus, it looks pretty cool sitting on my desk. Maybe it doesn’t have the Caliber 215 movement or a genuine Akoya pearl on the crown, but it’s got character. It was a fun project, and it reminded me why I love getting my hands dirty and making stuff.

So, there you have it – my adventure in trying to remake a super fancy watch. It’s not something I’d wear out, but it sure was fun to put together. Maybe next time I’ll try something even more challenging. Who knows?
