Remake Patek Philippe PP Golden Ellipse 5738R: Get the Look for Less

Alright, folks, gather ’round. Today, I’m gonna tell you about my little project: remaking a Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse, specifically the 5738R model. You know, the one that looks like a million bucks? Yeah, that’s the one.

So, first things first, I got my hands on some materials. I’m not made of money, so no real gold here, just some good ol’ metal that looks the part. I started by shaping the case. Now, this ain’t your regular round watch; it’s got that special ellipse shape. I took my time, carefully bending and shaping the metal until it looked just right. It’s all about those proportions, you see? They say it’s based on some “golden section” from ancient Greece, 1 / 1.6181 or something, the ratio is pretty famous. I just make sure it looks good to my eye.

Next up, the dial. I wanted that clean, minimalist look, so I kept it simple. A nice, dark background with some shiny, gold-colored markers. I painted the background and carefully placed the markers. No numbers, just those simple lines. Less is more, right? And crafted in 18k rose gold!

Getting the hands right was a bit tricky. They’re so thin and delicate. I used some very fine wire and shaped them carefully. Then, I attached them to the movement. I didn’t make the movement myself, of course. I’m good, but I’m not that good. I just used a standard one you can get anywhere. Mounted hands on a tiny machine, and fixed them into the dial.

  • Shaped the case based on the golden ratio
  • Painted the dial with a minimalist design
  • Crafted the hands from fine wire
  • Used a standard movement and fixed it into the dial

Finally, I put it all together. Attached the dial to the case, added the movement, and fixed the back. Then, I strapped on a nice leather band, and voila! My very own Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R. It may not be the real deal, but it sure looks like it. And you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it.

So, that’s my story. It wasn’t easy, but it was a fun project. And who knows, maybe I’ll try my hand at another model someday. But for now, I’m gonna enjoy wearing this beauty on my wrist.

And found those watches are extremely rare, especially those old ones.

At last, I’m quite satisfied with my work, it’s really a masterpiece of timeless elegance.
