Today, I decided to tackle a little project I’ve been thinking about for a while: remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001, just like the one on their official store.
First thing I did was to take a long, hard look at pictures of the watch online. It seems pretty straightforward, but I also saw some Japanese and Hong Kong websites talking about how good it is and how it’s been around for a long time.
Then, I got down to work. I found some specs for the watch online: it’s about 28.6 x 40.85 mm, and 7.36 mm thick, and it can handle water up to 30 meters deep. The most important part was the serial number—it’s unique to each watch and tells you when it was made and all that. Without that, you can’t really tell if it’s the real deal or not.
- Gather reference images. Scoured the internet for detailed pictures of the Gondolo 4962/200R-001.
- Note down the specs. Dimensions, water resistance, and the importance of the serial number.
- Start the remake. I started to think about how to make it.
It wasn’t easy, and I messed up a few times. But I kept at it, comparing my work to the pictures and descriptions I found. I really wanted to get it right, especially the warm colors that Patek Philippe uses.
Main Steps
- Trial and error. Made a few prototypes, none of which were perfect.
- Comparison. Kept comparing my work with the official images and descriptions.
- Refinement. Tweaked and adjusted until I was happy with the result.
Finally, I think I nailed it. It looks just like the real one, at least to me. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot about what goes into making something look luxurious and well-crafted. And it felt great to see the finished product after all that work!
So that’s my story of remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo. It was a good experience, and maybe I’ll try something like this again in the future. It’s pretty satisfying to make something with your own hands that looks like it could be on a store shelf.
