Okay, so I saw this PRADA Tessuto Nylon Backpack online. People were saying it’s a classic, super strong, and waterproof. It looked pretty cool, and I thought, “Why not try making one myself?”

First thing I did was find some black nylon fabric. I needed something tough and could handle a bit of rain, just like the real deal. I found some at a local fabric store – it wasn’t too expensive, which was a good start.

Next, I needed to figure out the shape and size. I looked at a bunch of pictures of the PRADA backpack and sketched out a rough design. It’s basically a big rectangle with a flap on top and some straps. I measured my back and shoulders, just using a tape I found in the kitchen drawer, to make sure the backpack wouldn’t be too big or too small.

  • Cut the fabric: I laid out the nylon and cut out the pieces according to my sketch. I made sure to cut two pieces for the front and back, one long piece for the sides and bottom, and a smaller piece for the flap.
  • Sew the body: I used my mom’s old sewing machine – it’s a bit clunky, but it works. I sewed the front, back, and sides together, leaving the top open. It was tricky to keep the lines straight, but I managed.
  • Make the flap: I sewed a piece of nylon to the back of the bag to create the flap. I added a simple buckle to keep it closed – just a regular plastic one, nothing fancy.
  • Add the straps: This was the hardest part. I cut two long strips of nylon and folded them in half, then sewed them to the top and bottom of the backpack. I had to reinforce the stitching a few times to make sure they were strong enough to hold the weight.

After a few evenings of sewing and a few frustrating moments, I finally finished! It wasn’t perfect, and it definitely didn’t look exactly like the PRADA bag, but it was a backpack, and it was made of black nylon.

The Result

I used it for a few days, carrying my books and stuff. It held up pretty well, and the nylon did a good job of keeping my things dry when it rained a little. I even got a few compliments from friends who thought it was a real PRADA at first glance.

Overall, it was a fun project. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but I learned a lot about sewing and working with nylon. I was kinda proud of my homemade backpack, even though it wasn’t exactly a designer piece, it works!
