Buying a Remake Nautilus 5712: Whats the Best Patek Philippe Replica?

Okay, here is my sharing about how I remade a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712:

I’ve always been a huge fan of Patek Philippe, especially their Nautilus line. It’s just so sleek and sophisticated, you know? The 5712, with its moon phase and power reserve, is one of my favorites, but getting a real one? Forget about it, almost impossible! So, I thought, why not try to remake one myself? This is not easy job,but I love to try it!

First thing I did was research. I spent hours looking at pictures of the 5712, trying to understand every little detail. I found out that the original was launched way back in 1976 and has this cool “porthole” case design. And the bezel? Rounded octagon, which is pretty unique. They also talk about the dial, which has these horizontal lines embossed on it. This detail is so cool.

Once I had a good grasp of the design, I started gathering materials. I knew I wouldn’t be able to use the exact same stuff as Patek Philippe, but I tried to find decent alternatives. I used high-quality stainless steel for the case, for example. Finding the right movement was tricky. I finally found a reliable automatic movement and I think it’s not bad.

The real challenge was putting it all together. I made the case first, trying to replicate that rounded octagonal shape as best I could. It took a lot of filing and polishing, let me tell you. Then, I work on the dial. I don’t have fancy embossing tools, so I decided to carefully engrave the lines by hand. It took forever, but I think it looks pretty good. The moon phase I tried my best to make it look the same. After a long time,I made it!

The Hardest Part

The most difficult step was definitely assembling the movement. I’m no watchmaker, just a regular guy with a hobby. But I watched tons of videos and read forum, then I managed to put all those tiny gears and springs in the right place. It was nerve-wracking, but so satisfying when I finally got it to tick!

Finally, I added the finishing touches. I polished the case some more, attached the bracelet, and put on the hands. I even tried to mimic the Patek Philippe logo on the clasp. It’s not perfect, but I’m happy with it.

My Final Result

  • Case: Rounded octagonal, stainless steel.
  • Dial: Horizontally engraved lines, date, moon phases, and power reserve sub-dials.
  • Movement: Automatic.
  • Bracelet: Integrated, stainless steel.

So, there you have it, my journey of remaking a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712. It wasn’t easy, and it’s definitely not the same as the real thing, but I learned so much along the way. And now I have a watch that I’m really proud of. It’s not just a watch, it’s a story of how I turned a dream into something I can actually wear on my wrist. Maybe I’ll try another model next time, who knows!
