This here, this Patek Philippe, whatcha call it, Calatrava 5227R-001, well, I hear folks talkin’ ’bout it, how much it costs, and all that. They say it’s a fancy watch, cost ya a whole heap of money. Now, I ain’t one for fancy things, but I seen pictures, and it does look kinda shiny. This remake thing, people are trying to sell them, it is not original, you know that, right? They say it’s a good price, but I heard the original one is really expensive. Some people just want that look, I guess. But you gotta be careful, some of these remakes, they ain’t so good.
This 5227R-001, it’s got a gold case, rose gold they call it, 39mm. Sounds big to me, but what do I know? My old watch, it’s just a little thing, tells the time just fine. But this Patek Philippe, it’s supposed to be special. Remake Patek Philippe, it’s a big deal, I guess, ’cause the real ones are so darn expensive. You see folks wearin’ ’em, tryin’ to look all important.
Now, this watch, it’s got all these little parts inside, movin’ around, keepin’ the time. They call it a “movement.” This one, they say it’s a 324 movement, somethin’ like that. Self-winding, that’s what they told me. Don’t need no battery, I reckon. Just wear it, and it keeps on tickin’.
I heard them talk about jewels, 29 jewels in this thing. Not like the jewels on a ring, mind you. These are somethin’ different, inside the watch. Make it run smoother, I suppose. And a shock absorber, like on a car, but for a watch! Can you believe that? This PP Calatrava 5227R-001, it’s got all sorts of fancy stuff in it. But the remake one, you gotta watch out. They might not have all the same good stuff inside.
Some folks, they collect these watches. Spend all their money on ’em. They say this Patek Philippe Calatrava, it’s a good one to have in your collection, a “staple addition” or somethin’ like that. Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in the pantry to me! But I reckon if you got the money, and you like that sort of thing, then it’s your business.
This other one they was talkin’ about, Cal. 30-255, hand-wound. That means you gotta wind it yourself, like them old clocks. 27 jewels in that one, smaller I guess, only 30.4mm. This watch stuff, it’s all so complicated. And the power reserve, minimum 66 hours. I don’t know, that’s more than 2 days.
They introduced this 5227R-001 back in 2013, I heard. That’s a while back now. Said it was a “modern interpretation” of somethin’ or other. Just means it’s a new version of an old watch, I reckon. Now, I ain’t sayin’ you should go out and buy one of these things. Especially the remakes, gotta be real careful. But if you’re into watches, and you got the money burnin’ a hole in your pocket, well, maybe you’ll think about it. This whole watch thing, it’s beyond me. I’m happy with my little watch that tells the time. But I guess some folks, they need somethin’ more. Somethin’ shiny, somethin’ expensive, somethin’ like this Patek Philippe Calatrava. Just be careful if you’re thinkin’ about a remake. Do your research, they say. Don’t want to get ripped off, you know? It is a lot of money, even for a fake one. That’s all I gotta say about that.
They told me about something called a “Gyromax balance”. Sounds like some kind of exercise equipment. But it is something to do with the watch. This 5227, it is really complicated, with lots of small parts. The remake, it is hard to tell if it is as good. Be sure you know what you are getting.
