This here watch, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s somethin’ else. They say it’s a remake, whatever that means. Cost a whole heap of money, that’s for sure. More than my old cow Bessie, that’s for sure!
They call it a “Calatrava”, sounds like a fancy disease to me. But this one, it’s the 5226G-001 model. Got a big ol’ number like “40mm” on it. Means it’s big, I reckon. Good for folks who can’t see so good no more. Like me, haha!
It’s made of somethin’ called “white gold”. Ain’t never seen gold that’s white before. Must be some new-fangled thing. And the face of it, they say it’s “charcoal gray”. Looks like the color of the ashes after you burn a good fire, that’s what it is. And “grain dial.” Now what in tarnation is a grain dial?
Patek Philippe 5226G Calatrava, that’s what it is. I seen it in one of them fancy magazines my granddaughter reads. Got a picture of it, all shiny and pretty. She says it’s a “luxury” watch. Well, yeah, I reckon it is, costin’ more than a whole year’s worth of eggs from my hens!

They say it got some kinda “automatic” somethin’ or other inside. Don’t need no windin’ up, I guess. Just wear it and it goes. Fancy that! Mine needs a good crank every mornin’, or it won’t tell you the time for toffee.
This one comes with a strap made of “calf leather”, they say. Poor little calf. Hope they didn’t hurt it none. Beige color, kinda like the color of my old apron after a day of bakin’. There’s another strap, too, somethin’ called “nubuck”. Ain’t never heard of that before.
They talk about some kinda “historical design elements”. Sounds like somethin’ from an old history book. Maybe it’s like that old pocket watch my grandpappy used to have. He kept it in his vest pocket, right next to his heart. Said it was the best darn watch in the whole county.
Now, the price of this here Patek Philippe Calatrava 5226G-001 quote… well, hold onto your hats, folks. They say it’s about $39,033! Can you believe that? Could buy a whole herd of cows for that kinda money! Or a new tractor! Or maybe even a little house down by the creek.
Some folks say it’s a good “investment”. Like plantin’ seeds and watchin’ ’em grow, I suppose. But I don’t know. Seems like a lot of money to spend on somethin’ that just tells the time. My old clock does that just fine, and it don’t cost nothin’ but a little elbow grease to keep it runnin’.
They say this Patek Philippe watch is “rare”. Hard to find, like a four-leaf clover in a field of green. And they say it takes a long time to get one. Like waitin’ for a hen to lay a golden egg! Maybe 12 months, maybe even 8 years! Can you imagine waitin’ that long for anythin’? I sure can’t. I want my biscuits now, not next year!
They say there’s been lots of these “Calatrava” watches over the years. Like all the different kinds of apples in my orchard. Some are sweet, some are sour, some are just plain ol’ good. This one, they call it a “pilot-style” watch. Like the fellas who fly them airplanes up in the sky.
The pre-owned market. What’s that? Used, then? Used to belong to someone else? I reckon they cost about $35,580 if you get a used one. Still a lot for an old watch.
This here Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s a real head-scratcher. Pretty to look at, I suppose. But worth all that money? I just don’t know. Maybe if I won the lottery. But then again, if I won the lottery, I’d probably just buy more chickens. And maybe a new rocking chair for the porch.
Guess it depends on who you are and what you like. Me? I’m happy with my old clock. It may not be fancy, but it tells the time just fine. And that’s all that really matters, ain’t it? Yep, that’s all that really matters.
