Okay, so I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and let me tell you, the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary edition is a real thing. It is not officially a “limited edition,” but good luck finding one without waiting a while. This thing is super popular, and once I started digging into it, I totally got why.
Now, I know there were other Snoopy Speedmasters before. Like, I did a bit of looking around. I found out that the first one, back in 2003, they only made 5,441 of them. Then there was a white one in 2015, and that was even rarer, only 1,970 made. But this new 50th Anniversary one? They’re making more, but it doesn’t make them any easier to get.
I tried to get my hands on one of these. Here is the thing: this watch is a nod to this award OMEGA got from NASA way back in 1970. Snoopy, yeah, the cartoon dog, he’s been like NASA’s safety mascot since the ’60s. It’s a whole thing, and I think it is pretty cool that they made a watch to celebrate that.
The first thing I did was look at the watch. This is one of the hottest Speedmasters since it dropped in 2020. I mean, the silver dial with those blue accents on the sub-dials, man, it looks sharp. And that is just the front.
What really blew me away was the back.
- The older Snoopy watches, they had Snoopy on them, sure, but it was more subtle.
- This one goes all out. It is got this whole animation thing going on.
- I can’t explain it well, but it is like a little scene that plays out when the chronograph is activated.
I spent hours just playing with it, watching the little Earth disc spin and Snoopy go around the moon. It’s nuts! It is like a tiny, little movie on your wrist. It is details like this that make this watch so special.
My Deep Dive into the Details
So, after getting over the initial excitement, I started to really look at the details. I took a lot of photos. Like, I really tried to capture what makes this watch so cool. The shade of blue they used, the way the silver reflects light, the texture of the strap – everything is just so well done. I wanted to remember every little bit of it.
I wore the watch for a few days. It is not just a pretty face. It feels good on the wrist. It is got some weight to it, but not too much. It is comfortable enough to wear all day. I even found myself just staring at it sometimes, which is probably not the safest thing to do while walking around, but hey, it happens.
I even tried to take it apart, but figured that is probably a bad idea. I’m no watchmaker. But I did read up on the movement inside. It is a Co-Axial Master Chronometer, which, from what I gathered, means it is super accurate and can handle magnetic fields like a champ. I’m not sure I’ll ever be in a situation where magnetic resistance is crucial, but it is good to know it is there.
Finally, I had to give the watch back. That was a sad day. But the whole experience got me thinking. This is not just a watch. It is a piece of history, a piece of art, and a little piece of animation, all wrapped into one. It is no wonder everyone wants one. It is really something special.
