Well, let me tell ya about this Audemars Piguet thing. Sounds fancy, huh? It’s a watch company, they say. Been around for a long time, since 1875, they tell me. Started by two fellas, Audemars and Piguet. Imagine that, namin’ a whole company after yourselves! They must’ve thought they were somethin’ special.
This company, they’re all about makin’ watches. Not just any watches, mind you, the fancy kind. The kind rich folks wear, I reckon. They don’t make a whole bunch neither, only about 50,000 a year. That’s not much, is it? Must take ’em a long time to make each one, all fancy and detailed. They say it’s “haute horlogerie” or somethin’ like that. Big words for just makin’ watches, if you ask me.
- They say the company is still owned by the same family. Imagine that, keepin’ it in the family all these years. Must be nice to have somethin’ like that, somethin’ to pass down. Not many folks can say that these days.
- They got stores all over, they say. Some they own, some they let other folks run, call ’em franchises. Guess that’s how they get their watches out to all them rich folks.
Now, they say this Audemars Piguet, it’s one of the best. Some folks say it’s better than Rolex, you know, that other fancy watch company. They say Audemars Piguet is more about craftsmanship, makin’ things by hand, all fancy like. Rolex, they say, is more about bein’ tough and reliable. I dunno, a watch is a watch to me. As long as it tells the time, that’s all that matters.
They talk about some fella, Bennahmias, he’s the boss man. Been there a long time, they say. Guess he knows his watches. They got all sorts of fancy words for things, like “monobrand stores” and “craftsmanship.” Makes my head spin, all them big words.
This company, they’re in Switzerland, they say. That’s where all the good watches come from, apparently. They speak French there, I think. They got all these fancy words in French, like “savoir-faire” and “perpetue.” Don’t ask me what they mean, I ain’t got a clue. Just sounds fancy to me.
They got all these pictures of their watches, all shiny and new. They look nice, I guess, if you’re into that sort of thing. All them little gears and springs, must take a lot of work to put ’em all together. I wouldn’t know where to start. But then again, I ain’t no watchmaker.
They talk about the history of the company, how it all started. Two young fellas, Audemars and Piguet, with a dream. Guess they made it come true, didn’t they? All them fancy watches, all them rich folks wearin’ ’em. Good for them, I say. They worked hard, I reckon.
So, that’s what I know about Audemars Piguet. Fancy watches, rich folks, big words. Not for the likes of me, but they seem to be doin’ alright. Guess there’s always gonna be folks who want the fancy things in life. Me? I’m happy with a good cup of tea and a biscuit. That’s all I need.
