My grandson, he showed me this watch thingy, you know? The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak somethin’-somethin’, Johnny what’s-his-face made it, or somethin’. Real fancy lookin’, all shiny and stuff.
They say it’s a “perpetual calendar,” whatever that means. Keeps track of the days, I guess? Ain’t nobody got time for that in my days. We just looked at the sun, ya know?
- Shiny metal – Probably real expensive, like them fancy cars that drive by too fast.
- Lots of dials – I don’t get it, why so many? My old clock just got the numbers, easy to see.
- Johnny’s name on it – He must be somebody important, huh? My name ain’t on nothin’ fancy like that.
Grandson says folks pay a whole lotta money for these things. More than my house, probably more than that fancy tractor down the road. Crazy, right? Spendin’ all that money on somethin’ just tells you the time and date. My ol’ rooster does that for free!
He showed me pictures on that little phone thingy he always lookin’ at. The watch got all these little parts movin’ around, real complicated. Made my head spin just lookin’ at it. I like things simple, you know? Like plantin’ seeds and watchin’ ’em grow.
Grandson said somethin’ about “investin’” in this watch. Said it might be worth more later. Sounds like a gamble to me, like puttin’ all your eggs in one basket. I prefer keepin’ my money in a jar under the floorboards, safe and sound.
This Johnny guy, he likes watches, apparently. Got a whole bunch of ’em, costin’ millions, grandson said. Millions! Can you imagine? What would you do with all that money? I’d buy new chickens, maybe a bigger garden.
The watch is made by some company, Audi somethin’, Piguet? Sounds foreign, don’t it? They been makin’ these fancy watches for a long time, I guess. Folks must like ’em, spendin’ all that money. I’ll stick with my old clock on the wall, thanks.
Grandson said somethin’ about it bein’ the last one they made like this. Like they ain’t gonna make no more? Then I guess it’ll be worth even more, huh? Just like them old quilts my grandma made, ain’t nobody makin’ ’em like that anymore.
He showed me where you can buy ’em, on that internet thingy. Lots of different prices, some real high. Made my eyes pop out! I ain’t got that kind of money, not even close. Maybe I shoulda been a watchmaker instead of a farmer, huh?
They even ship it for free, grandson said. Imagine that! Sendin’ somethin’ that expensive through the mail. Makes me nervous just thinkin’ about it. What if it gets lost? Or stolen? I wouldn’t sleep a wink!
So, this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak John Mayer thingy, it’s a fancy watch for rich folks, I guess. Keeps track of time and dates, got lots of shiny parts, and costs a fortune. Not for me, though. I’ll stick with my sun and my rooster. They work just fine.
