Ya know, those fancy watches, the ones they call “Audemars Piguet”, folks talk about ’em a lot. See ’em in magazines and on the TV. They say some rich fellas buy ’em. I ain’t never had one myself, mind ya. Don’t need no fancy watch to tell me when it’s time to feed the chickens.
Heard tell they cost a pretty penny. Folks whisperin’ about payin’ every month for ’em. Like buyin’ a car or somethin’. In that “USA” place, I reckon they got their own prices. And then over in “HK”, Hong Kong I think they call it, they got different prices too. Must be somethin’ to do with how far away they are from where they make ’em. Like how the price of eggs changes dependin’ on the season.
- Don’t make sense to me, all this money stuff. But I guess if ya got it, ya spend it how ya like.
- Heard tell there’s a big boss man, a “CEO” they call him, over at Audemars Piguet. I seen interviews on the TV, him talkin’ about all sorts of things. Fancy words, mostly. Don’t understand half of it.
This fella on the TV, he was talkin’ about the “market” for them watches. Like a farmers market, I suppose, but for watches. He said somethin’ about the top 30 models, how they doin’. I reckon that means which ones folks are buyin’ the most. Like how some folks like red apples and others like green ones.
Then there was this lady, “Ilaria” I think her name was. She’s a big boss lady at Audemars Piguet too. Said somethin’ about workin’ there bein’ good, payin’ good and all. Said they got somethin’ called “health insurance” and a “pension plan”. Sounds complicated. I just work hard and hope the good Lord provides.
Folks used to say ya had to wait a long time to get one of them steel watches, the “Royal Oak” they call it. Like waitin’ for a prize-winnin’ pig to be born. But now, they say it ain’t so long no more. Just a few weeks, they say. Times change, I reckon. Like how the weather turns cold after the summer.
All this talk about money and fancy watches. Makes my head spin. I’d rather spend my time watchin’ the sun rise and settin’, tendin’ to my garden. That’s real work, you see. Not just pushin’ papers and talkin’ on the TV. But hey, to each their own. If folks wanna spend their money on fancy watches, that’s their business. Just don’t make no sense to me, is all.
So there ya have it. That’s what I know about them “Audemars Piguet” watches. Not much, I admit. Just what I hear folks talkin’ about. Maybe one day I’ll see one up close. But for now, I’m happy with my old clock on the wall. It tells me the time just fine, and that’s all I need.
