Well, let me tell ya about this Audemars Piguet watch thing, you know, the one with the long fancy name. People keep askin’ me when it all started, like it matters. I heard some folks say it was back in 1875, somethin’ about two young fellas, Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, becomin’ partners. Young whippersnappers, I bet, full of big ideas.
Now, some say they didn’t really get the show on the road until 1881, over in some place called Le Brassus, a little village in Switzerland. Fancy place, I reckon, all mountains and cheese. That’s when they made it official, put a name on it and all – Audemars Piguet & Cie. Sounds important, doesn’t it?
- 1875: Them boys started talkin’, shakin’ hands.
- 1881: Made it a real thing, with a name and a place.
Folks keep askin’ about this “Royal Oak” watch, too. Says it was drawn on a napkin by some fella named Gerald Genta in Basel. A napkin, can you believe it? Guess good ideas come from anywhere, even a dirty old napkin. This Royal Oak, it’s a big deal, everyone wants one. But they don’t make a whole bunch of ’em, you know. They say Audemars Piguet don’t like to make too many watches each year. Something about keepin’ it special. Limit it to 40, or somethin’ like that. Don’t make sense to me, more watches, more money, right?
Now, they tell me people used to wait a long time for these watches. Months, years even! But now, seems like you can get one quicker. Few weeks, they say. Maybe folks got tired of waitin’, or maybe they just ain’t as popular as they used to be. Who knows?
This Audemars Piguet, they like to say they’re all about quality and craftsmanship. Means they take their time, don’t rush things. Like makin’ a good stew, you can’t rush it, gotta let it simmer. And these watches, they’re expensive, real expensive. Must be somethin’ special about ’em, I guess. All them little parts, tickin’ and tockin’ away. Must take a lot of work to put it all together.
1891, I heard they made one of their “firsts”. Don’t know what it was, but it was important. Probably some fancy watch with lots of diamonds and gold. That’s what rich folks like, right?
So, Audemars Piguet, they’ve been around a long time. Started back in 1875 or 1881, depends on who you ask. Made in Switzerland, fancy watches for fancy people. Took ’em a while to get started, but they’re a big name now. Royal Oak, napkin drawings, limited numbers, long wait times… sounds like a lot of fuss to me. But hey, people like what they like. And if they wanna spend their money on a fancy watch, that’s their business. As long as it tells the time, that’s all that matters, right?
24 hours in a day, that’s all we got. Don’t matter if you got a fancy watch or a cheap one, time keeps on tickin’. Just gotta make the most of it, that’s what I say.
