Well, lemme tell ya ’bout this watch thingy, this Audemars Piguet, or whatever they call it. Fancy name, ain’t it? Sounds like somethin’ a rich fella would wear.
They say it started way back, long before I was even a twinkle in my daddy’s eye. Two young fellas, Jules somethin’ and Edward somethin’-else, they got together and made this watch business. Must’ve been friends, I reckon. 1875, that’s when they started. Long, long time ago.
- Jules-Louis Audemars was 24
- Edward-Auguste Piguet was 22
Now, I don’t know much about watches. I got this old one on my wrist, tells the time, that’s all I need. But this Audemars Piguet, they say it’s fancy. Got all sorts of gears and whatnot inside. You can see ’em too, they didn’t put that AP sign on it big, so you can peek right in. Clever, ain’t it?
They got numbers and hands that glow in the dark, so you can tell the time even when it’s pitch black. Handy, if you gotta get up in the middle of the night. And there’s this circle thingy around the edge, with numbers on it. They call it a “tachymeter”, whatever that means. Probably somethin’ fancy.
And this watch, it tells the date too. Big ol’ numbers, so you don’t need your spectacles to see. And it tells you if it’s day or night somewhere else, in another place far away. They call that “GMT”, somethin’ like that. I don’t know why you’d need to know the time somewhere else, but I guess some folks do.
Now, this watch, it’s made in Switzerland. That’s a place far, far away. They make all sorts of fancy things there, I hear. Clocks and chocolate and such. This watch company, they’re in a place called Le Brassus. Never heard of it, but it must be a fancy place if they make watches like this.
They call it “luxury,” this watch. Means it costs a pretty penny, I reckon. Not somethin’ a regular person like me would buy. But I guess some folks got money to burn. They wanna wear a fancy watch, that’s their business.
This watch company, they changed their name a bit over the years. Started with those two fellas’ names, then they added “& Cie” at the end. Don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. Like a big fancy business.
And this Audemars Piguet name, it means somethin’ in Chinese too. They say it means “love.” Ain’t that sweet? A watch that means love. Though, I reckon it’s more about showin’ off how much money you got, but that’s just my opinion.
Now, they asked me about the “founding date and time china gmt+.” Well, the date is 1875, like I said. As for the time, I dunno. They didn’t have fancy clocks like they do now. Maybe they just looked at the sun. And “China GMT+”, that’s just tellin’ you the time difference between Switzerland and China. Fancy talk, I tell ya.
So there you have it, all about this Audemars Piguet watch. A fancy watch, made by fancy fellas, in a fancy place. Costs a lot of money, but tells the time just like my old one. Just a bit more showy, that’s all.
