Well, lemme tell ya ’bout this Audemars Piguet watch company. They make fancy watches, ya know, the kind rich folks wear. Heard they crank out a whole bunch of ’em every year.
They say this year, they gonna make at least 50,000 watches. That’s a lotta watches! Can you even imagine seein’ that many? My eyes would get all crossed. And get this, they’re plannin’ on makin’ even more, like maybe 70,000. Sounds like they’re busier than a one-legged cat in a sandbox!
Now, this company, Audemars Piguet, they been around a long time. Started way back in 1875 by two fellas, Jules and Edward. Musta been smart cookies to get somethin’ like this goin’. They’re up in Switzerland, in a place called Le Brassus. Fancy name, huh? Bet it’s pretty up there.
They make all sorts of watches, ya know. Some are called Royal Oak, others Millenary. Sound like big important names, don’t they? Guess that’s why they cost so much. But hey, if you got the money, more power to ya.
- One thing they did, way back in 1892, was make the first wristwatch that could chime the minutes. Imagine that! A watch that talks to ya! Well, not talk, exactly, but you get the idea.
- They got all sorts of folks workin’ there, engineers and such. Takes a lot of people to make that many watches. And it takes a long time too, sometimes days, sometimes months, sometimes even years to make just one! Land sakes, I can knit a whole sweater in that time.
They got this place, the Manufacture des Forges, where they make a lot of the watches. Sounds like a big factory to me. Bet it’s noisy with all that clankin’ and bangin’. But I reckon they know what they’re doin’.
Now, they don’t just make any old watches, these are fancy ones, the kind people collect and show off. They’re part of some fancy Swiss watch group too. Guess that means they’re the real deal. I heard they used to make fewer watches, like 40,000 or so, but now they’re makin’ more.
People say these watches are real special. They got all sorts of intricate parts and they’re made real careful like. No wonder they cost a pretty penny. I bet if I had one, I’d be too scared to wear it, afraid I’d scratch it or somethin’.
So, there you have it, Audemars Piguet makes a whole bunch of watches every year. Sounds like they’re doin’ alright for themselves. Must be nice to make things that people want so much. Makes ya think, don’t it?
