Yeah, so you wanna know ’bout that watch, the Pateek Philly-peep, or somethin’ like that? It’s a fancy one, that’s for sure. My grandson, he showed me a picture on his shiny phone thingy. All gold and complicated lookin’, like one of them doohickeys from a spaceship movie.
They say it’s got stars on it. Like, the actual stars you see up in the sky at night. Can you believe that? Putting the whole dang sky on a watch face. Must be some real smart fella who made that. Not like me, I can barely tell time on a regular clock, ha!
- It’s gold, I know that much. Shiny, yellow gold. Like them rings they sell at the church fair, only way fancier.
- And it winds itself up, they say. No batteries needed. Must be magic, right? How else does a thing keep tickin’ without a battery? But my grandson, he says it’s just gears and springs and stuff inside. Fancy gears and springs, I bet.
Now, they’re tellin’ me this watch is worth a whole lotta money. Like, enough to buy a new tractor, or maybe even a whole new barn! Can you imagine? All that money for somethin’ that just tells time. But I guess it ain’t just tellin’ time, is it? It’s got the stars and all that fancy work.
People who buy these watches, they must have money to burn. Not like us, gotta work hard for every penny. But hey, if they wanna spend their money on a shiny watch, that’s their business. Me, I’d rather buy a new stove, mine’s been actin’ up lately.
They say you gotta look for numbers on the back, to make sure it’s a real one. Numbers like “750” for gold and “950” for that other shiny metal, plat-inum, or somethin’. Like it matters to me! I can’t tell gold from brass half the time.
And they got one with a blue face, too. Blue like the sky on a clear day. My grandson, he likes that one. Says it’s pretty. Well, I guess it is, if you like that kinda thing. All fancy and showy.
You know, I reckon if you’re gonna spend all that money on a watch, it better be somethin’ special. Something that’ll last longer than you do. And this Pateek Philly-peep, they say it’ll do just that. Pass it down to your kids and grandkids, like a family heirloom. Like my grandma’s old quilt, only way fancier.
But for me, I’ll stick with my old kitchen clock. It might not have stars on it, and it definitely ain’t made of gold, but it tells me when it’s time to bake cookies, and that’s all that matters to me.
