- Next, I carefully attached the dial. This part was tricky because you gotta align it perfectly. One wrong move and the whole thing looks wonky. And let’s be honest, nobody wants a wonky watch.
- Then, came the hands. Each one had to be placed just so. I was sweating bullets, I kid you not. I had to do some deep breathing exercises to calm my nerves. Remember that scene in the movie where they’re defusing a bomb? That was me, except with a watch.
- After that, I fitted the crystal. Getting it to sit flush and secure was like trying to fit a circle into a square that was almost the exact same size. Almost.
And finally, the case. I slotted the whole thing in, nice and snug. It was like the last piece of a puzzle. I tell you, the satisfaction I felt when I heard that click? Pure bliss. I may or may not have done a little victory dance right there in my workshop.
The whole process took me a good few weeks, working on and off. There were moments of frustration, times when I wanted to throw the whole thing out the window. But I persevered, fueled by coffee and sheer stubbornness. It is not easy, I was sweating bullets more than I do doing concentric muscle action of the quads. But I saw it through, and I’m damn proud of the result. I even managed to translate a few things using that Reverso thingamajig, just to make sure I wasn’t missing any crucial details from the original watch’s documentation, and I got some help from this Sarthaks eConnect thing for some of the calculations. It was rough, but I made it.
This whole experience taught me a lot about patience, precision, and the incredible complexity of these little machines we wear on our wrists. It’s not just about telling time, it’s about the craftsmanship, the history, the sheer ingenuity of it all. Would I do it again? Maybe. Ask me after I’ve had a long nap. For now, I’m just going to admire my handiwork and maybe show it off a little. Or a lot. Who am I kidding, I’m gonna be showing this off to everyone I know!
